Samhain, also known as Halloween or the Witches' New Year, is a sacred and powerful time in the wheel of the year. Falling on October 31st, it marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the darker half of the year. Samhain is a time when the veil between the physical and spiritual realms is believed to be at its thinnest, allowing for easier communication with ancestors, spirits, and the other. It is a time of remembrance, honouringย those who have passed on, and seeking guidance from the wisdom of the otherworld.
ย ย Samhain is a time for introspection, shadow work, and embracing the cycles of life and death. It is a time to release, to let go of old patterns and to make space for new beginnings.
ย ย Traditionally, bonfires were lit to ward off negative energies and to provide warmth and protection during the dark winter months but in modern times not all of us have access to outside fire settings so a beautiful hand crafted candle shall do! Today, Samhain is celebrated with rituals, divination, feasts and connecting with the dead .
ย ย It is a time to honour the mysteries of life and death, to connect with our ancestors, and to embrace the transformative power of the season.
A note from meโฆ
As the wheel of the year turns and the days grow shorter, I find myself drawn ever closer to the ancestors that came before. Samhain is a sacred time, where the veil between worlds thins and feels like a more potent time that allows us to connect more deeply with the other side.ย Of course through the year we have access to what lies beyond the veil but there just seems to be that โsomethingโ that this time of year just knows how to get into our bones.
In this season of darkness, I feel appreciation for the shadows that surround us, reminding me of the connections forged with those who have come before us. It gives us many moments to honour our ancestors, reflect on the lessons and gifts the past year has bestowed upon us.
This years box came to me while in a daze, overwhelmed by work, appointments and change. I was hit with a question that came in as clear as day โwhat is the reason this box is created?โ I answered steadfastly and said for those times we need to feel more, the times we need some inspiration and to remind us how important it is to be still, to remember, to keep fighting, to forgive and to simply come back to ourselves, our practice and our spirit. May this years offering box serve as a bridge to the spirits that guide us, a vessel of remembrance and a source of inspiration for the journey ahead.
